The Language of Animation

Discover the different forms of animation, the techniques used to create it, and essential animation terminology.

As animators we often throw around a lot of terms which can be confusing for beginners.

For my latest YouTube video, I decided to produce a guide which would not only clarify these all important animation terms but also provide an overview of the various forms of animation and the techniques used to create them.

Trying something different

In the video I cover 2D, 3D, and Stop Motion animation, with examples of each.

I’ve spent my career working as a 3D character animator so it was a lot of fun to play around with some Stop Motion and 2D animation to create the various examples for the video.

Getting out of your comfort zone and trying something different is not only fun to do, but it might also unlock new ways of approaching your work.

Whilst 3D animation will remain my medium of choice, I can definitely see myself making more use of 2D animation in the future.

Whether you're new to animation or you’ve been animating for a while, I hope that you‘ll find this video interesting.
