Squash and Stretch - Blender Rigging Tutorial

Learn to build a simple squash and stretch character rig in Blender.

When you’re learning to animate, it’s useful to be able to practice by bringing simple characters and objects to life.

One of the great things about hand drawn animation is that it’s possible to animate anything that you have the ability to draw.

The same cannot be said for 3D animation. Instead, once we have a design for our character, we must model and rig it before we can start to animate.

Both of these tasks are time consuming, even for simple characters, but rigging is also a technical hurdle which can be difficult to overcome.

Simple Squash and Stretch Rigging

To make the rigging process easier, I’ve just released a step by step tutorial which guides you through my full workflow for building a simple, squash and stretch rig for a toadstool.

If you’re new to rigging, this is a great place to start and it will provide you with a fun little character to animate.

Whilst this rig is quick and simple to setup, it provides a lot of flexibility, as I demonstrate with a piece of animation at the start of tutorial.

If you’re new to rigging, or it’s something which you’ve struggled with in the past, hopefully this tutorial will help you to get started.
